I'll keep it as simple as possible: What are, in your opinion, the top ten must underrated NES games?
I hope I don't have to explain what underrated means -- but seriously, I ask because I'm working on a top-10 list on this very subject, curious as to what fellow NES fans' opinions are.

I would have to say the following games classify as underrated for me. They far too rarely come up in discussions of what games people in general consider "good" or "must have" when it comes to the NES.
Journey to Silius R.C. Pro-Am Little Nemo: The Dream Master Crystalis Power Blade Shatterhand MegaMan 5 Bucky O' Hare (The Adventures of) Kabuki Quantum Fighter Startropics
Sure, Startropics and Little Nemo might be mentioned sometimes and MegaMan games are as well known as they get, but MegaMan 5 is almost never talked about in the same way that people keep going on about MegaMan 2 and 3.

Very true, about Mega Man 5, and very interesting that you mention it, since I put Mega Man 6 on my own list. ;D And StarTropics might be my all-time favorite game, so I'm with you there as well. I do think, though, that it has become somewhat retro chic to like Crystalis. But even then, it still might be underrated! And Shatterhand! Fantastic choice. But R.C. Pro Am? Meh. I feel like everyone in the world likes it but me. Thanks for sharing, though -- I like your list. Solid. My list eventually looked like this: Jurassic Park Mermaids of Atlantis Spot the Video Game Rescue: The Embassy Mission Jaws Mega Man 6 Terminator Faria Felix the Cat Little Samson In hindsight, I'm not sure how well Jaws and Felix the Cat fit the criteria, but there you have it. Crystalis Journey to Silius Shatterhand Castlevania 2 Xexyz The Guardian Legend Monster Party Clash at Demonhead Power Blade Super Dodge Ball
Castlevania 2 gets a lot of undeserved hate thanks to the AVGN when it is actually a very fun game. Journey to Silius hands down has the best music on the NES. Monster Party is well known for it's oddity factor, but I think the game as a whole is underrated. I've seen a lot of love of Super Dodge Ball, but it never seems to reach the same level of Blades of Steel and company when it obviously belongs there.

Crystalis Journey to Silius Shatterhand Castlevania 2 Xexyz The Guardian Legend Monster Party Clash at Demonhead Power Blade Super Dodge Ball I would just like to point out that seeing Crystalis and Power Blade on two different "underrated" lists might reduce their underrated credibility. An excellent point, and something worth exploring: I firmly, definitely believe that AVGN has done a great service to the NES and the retro-gaming community through raising awareness and providing entertainment; however, I also believe that his vids have resulted in some unfortunate consequences, like people believing a game is bad just because it says LJN on the label. Wow, bold statement there! Hands-down? Nothing else compares, huh? I really just wanted to touch on a couple points, but hey, why not be way over-analytical and butt in and comment on every single on of your points, sure, go right ahead Self... Agreed 100%. Monster Party is a decent platformer with some distinctive elements - I'm a fan of transformation elements in NES games for some reason. I think there is a certain category of NES games that may not have the best graphics, music, or depth, but are just flat-out fun... and I think Super Dodge Ball is the flagship example. Cool list.

To be fair, I'd say 95% of LJN products are pretty horrible. Just because a couple decent ones slip through the cracks doesn't mean that deceitful rainbow can be trusted...

True enough, but... more like 80%. A Boy and His Blob, for sure. I love that you registered for this forum just to say that. *laughsmiley*

I'll admit: I am an AVGN fanboy. He really gave retro gaming a huge surge in interest. The problem is that his viewers take his videos as legitimate reviews, which they are obviously not. The Nerd does satirical reviews, meaning that while he does have some valid points, the main point of the videos is to entertain, not to inform. Although, he has reviewed some legitimately terrible games before.
