Ugh.
It is really a bittersweet thing, bordering even on being truly sad or tragic, when I consider the wasted potential of some NES games.
These might be cartridges that had a great license but failed to use it, instead taking the classic lazy route of quickly churning out a bad game just to capitalize on the fleeting popularity of the license, despite it actually having potential for a cool game.
And/or a game that utilizes a unique gameplay mechanic/feature, one that could be awesome but seems squandered by unimaginative designers.
One example that comes to my mind is Jurassic Park -- it's an overhead shooter with limited ammo, cramped quarters, keys for doors, and other elements that could have made an oustanding survival horror title... but, instead, every level is about finding eggs. It's tedious and ridiculous.
Thoughts?
