What's your experience with the 72-pin connector on the NES console? Have you ever repaired it yourself? Installed a new one? Or have you never bothered to touch it (maybe never needed to)?
I have never installed a new one, but I've definitely dug into a toaster model and bent the pins for a tighter connection before, to satisfactory results.

I've replaced my own. It's actually quite simple. The hardest part is getting the connector off the board because it's on there quite snug. But other than that, easy peasy.
I love the feel of putting in a game when it's replaced. I'd imagine that's how it would be when you got one brand new (unfortunately, I never experienced that). I'd definitely recommend it if anyone is having trouble. Keep your eyes out for all the screws!

A shameful plug but I wrote a guide to replacing it. www.nes-bit.com/?p=3263It can be a bit fiddly at first and sometimes you really need to force the replacement into place just to get a decent connection but it's not too difficult.

Plug away, it is a great resource -- I watched it even not planning on replacing mine, but will refer to it again if I ever do someday.
